Matternet M2 Comes With A Mercedes Badge

Mercedes-Benz is getting into the Amazon vibe, concerning drones and package deliveries. This is probably why the company has announced investment in drone startup Matternet. The latter has developed a completely autonomous drone that can travel up to 12 miles on a charge –  the Matternet M2. That doesn’t sound like much, does it?

Mercedes also unveiled a concept van project, dubbed the Vision Van, working alongside the Matternet to offer an automated delivery chain. The Sprinter van features a mechanical shelving system that loads packages, with each package having a specific place and destination so that everyone will get their package.

The van’s shelving system pushes the package into a drone, and the drone then delivers it a docking station. Moreover, a beacon installed on the van roof allows Matternet’s drone to make an ultra-precise landing – cool, right? Please note that Matternet’s M2 drone can handle payloads of up to 4.4 pounds with no human interaction.
